Project Description:
With increasing demand for computer science classes, Rice University faced a decision to either continue to turn away students who wanted to enroll in an introductory course or hire more faculty to teach. Rice opted for a new approach with specialized software and methods to allow for personalized digital delivery for a parallel online session. This blended approach gives students the same level of in-person interaction with faculty, achieves the same learning outcomes, and keeps personnel expenses at the same level. Students watch videos before class and then come to class prepared to practice concepts they learned in the videos. Rice increased the capacity for this computer science class by 43%, with the ability for additional growth in the future.
