Summary

Public services are being tested as never before as the UK grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, unprecedented economic uncertainty, Brexit and squeezed public finances.

These multiple crises have required government organisations and the wider public sector to deliver vital new services in record time, in the most challenging circumstances in living memory.

The process has inspired public sector technology leaders and their suppliers to radically rethink how they deliver services and how those services operate.

For the public sector, as with other parts of the economy, the current uncertainty has accelerated already existing trends -in digital service delivery and accelerating the ‘Government As A Platform’ – a strategy announced by the Government Digital Service in the middle of the last decade but which is still very much work in progress.

This roundtable, sponsored by Salesforce will discuss:

  • Public Sector digital ambitions in the light of lessons learnt during the current multiple interrelated crises
  • Progress made so far in the delivery of public sector digital services and how the pandemic has accelerated remote working and other tech driven changes in working practices
  • The benefits of the ‘Government as a Platform’ concept and real world examples of how it enabled rapid service delivery during the pandemic
  • Remaining obstacles to digital transformation of public services and what can be done to overcome them
  • What public sector digital leaders want and need from the government, their suppliers and each other’s organisations to deliver integrated, seamless services to citizens

This roundtable will be an opportunity for a select group of public sector IT decision makers to discuss the opportunities, obstacles as well as their achievements and ambitions for citizens’ services during these turbulent times.
