Kathy Kay

Kay’s role at Principal charges her with overseeing global technology, digital strategies and operations, and future innovation. She and her team analyze what tech today’s consumers need, and how tomorrow’s tech will change their experiences. Kay, who holds a master’s degree in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Wayne State University, joined Principal Financial Group in May 2020. She has more than 25 years of cross-industry experience in IT. Most recently, she led the information technology function at Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), including the company’s mission-critical systems and the development of the company’s technology strategy, infrastructure and architecture. She has also held various leadership positions at General Motors, Comerica and SunTrust. Under her leadership, Principal was awarded as one of 20 Best Places to Work in IT 2023, in the category Large Organizations by Computerworld.
