DNS and the Edge: The Evolution Will Be Distributed

The DNS has long been an essential network element for enabling users to access internet-based services. However, the transition of communications service providers’ services to a distributed cloud model is driving them to evaluate their DNS strategies and product requirements. CSPs are entering the mass commercialisation phase of distributed cloud technologies such as MEC, 5G NR, and 5G NGC networks. This report examines communications service providers’ DNS evolution strategies and identifies the use cases that will have DNS impacts.
