Fonterra appoints new CIO

Gerben Otter has been CIO for consecutively three international FMCG companies headquartered both in Germany and in the Netherlands.

Fonterra has a new CIO, Gerben Otter, who came from the Dutch dairy co-operative Royal FrieslandCampina, where he was programme director, business transformation, and before that, its CIO. Otter will take on the CIO role at Fonterra on March 1. In his last role, Otter led SUMMIT, FrieslandCampina’s largest business transformation program. It entails implementing a single SAP instance worldwide, globally standardising and harmonising all business processes. His previous roles include Group CIO at GrandVision NV and CIO of adidas Group, which he held for nine years. He was also director information services at Unisys.

Fonterra is owned by 13,000 New Zealand dairy farmers and is the world’s largest exporter of dairy products.

Fonterra was ranked number one in the 2015 CIO100, the annual report on the top ICT using organisations in New Zealand. A team of 1500 including permanent, contract and third party support staff meets the ICT needs of the organisation.

Otter was appointed following a global search.The interim CIO role was filled bySimon Paparone, a partner at Ernst Young.
